Hue Arrangement Test

The idea of arranging colour samples in order of hue is a classic way of exploring colour perception. This page opens Hue Line, our game version: five rows of colour chips, with the first and last chip of each row fixed and the chips in between shuffled.

Tap one chip, then another, to swap them. When every row flows smoothly from one end to the other, submit. Misplaced chips are marked and each row is scored from 0 to 100. Rows get longer and the hue steps smaller as you go.

How to arrange chips well

  • Start from the fixed ends and work inwards.
  • Compare each chip with its two neighbours, not the whole row.
  • Look slightly away – peripheral vision sometimes spots jumps better.
  • Use a well-lit room and turn off night-mode filters.

Important: this is a game

Hue Test is inspired by colour arrangement tests but it is not a clinical tool and cannot diagnose colour blindness or any eye condition. Screens differ a lot in colour accuracy, so compare your scores only on the same device.
